“To the Ozarks and Back: Ballads and Fiddle Tunes” at Leach Library

On Thursday, September 14 at 7:00 p.m., the Leach Library will present Sarah Jane Nelson’s musical performance, “To the Ozarks and Back: Ballads and Fiddle Tunes”.

Ms. Nelson is both a musical performer and a writer, with a particular interest in traditional old-time music.  She has written features and profiles for a number of publications including American Craft, Orion and Country Journal, Fiddler Magazine, and The Old Time Herald. Currently, she is researching and writing a biography on Ozark folk song collector Max Hunter.

Alongside musician Cathy Mason, Ms. Nelson will perform ballads from the Max Hunter Folk Song Collection.  She will share some of her research on Max Hunter’s life, and will also encourage the audience to participate in a few singalongs.

This program is free and open to the public with seating limited to the first 90 individuals.  It will be held in the library’s lower-level meeting room.  Light refreshments will be served.
