On
Thursday, January 19 at 7:00 p.m., the Leach Library will host the program
“Exemplary Country Estates of New Hampshire” by Cristina Ashjian.
Ms.
Ashjian is an art historian and an independent scholar, and she currently is
the chair of the Moultonborough Heritage Commission. She holds an M.A. in the History of Art from
the Courtauld Institute of Art, University of London, and a Ph.D. in Modern Art
and Architecture from Northwestern University.
In
this slideshow presentation, Ms. Ashjian will introduce the history of the
country house movement that was launched in the early 20th century. Using historic images and texts, she will
discuss well-known estates now open to the public such as The Fells on Lake
Sunapee, The Rocks in Bethlehem, and Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site in
Cornish.
This
program is sponsored by the Friends of the Londonderry Leach Library. The event is free and open to the public with
seating limited to the first 90 individuals. It will be held in the library’s lower-level
meeting room. Light refreshments will be
served.
