Leach Library Hosts Talk on Concord Coaches

On Thursday, April 17 at 7:00 p.m. the Leach Library will host Peter James, from the Abbot-Downing Historical Society. Mr. James will join us for a multimedia presentation on the Abbot & Downing Company and their most famous product: the Concord Coach. The Abbot-Downing Historical Society was formed in 1977 in order to educate the public about the significance of the Concord Coach. Originally known as the Concord Coach Society, the name was changed in 2011. In this presentation, Mr. James will discuss the history of the Abbot & Downing Company over it’s approximately one hundred years of active existence in Concord, New Hampshire. Included in the presentation will be photographs and descriptions of all of the remaining Concord Coaches located in New Hampshire. A question and answer session will follow the presentation. This event is sponsored by the Londonderry Historical Society. The Londonderry Historical Society was formed in 1956 and incorporated in 1968 as a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of the Town’s past and has been collecting and storing artifacts and bits of history for many years. The Historical Society meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the library. You can find out more about the Londonderry Historical Society at their website: www.londonderryhistory.org. This event is free and open to the public, and will be held in the library’s lower-level meeting room. Seating is limited to the first 90 people. Light refreshments will be served.
