Leach Library to Host Dr. Andrew Laurie Stangel

On Thursday, January 16 at 7:00 p.m., the Leach Library will host the program, “Treasures of the Vatican” with Dr. Andrew Laurie Stangel. Join this popular presenter for a narrated guided tour through one of the world’s greatest collections of art.

Dr. Stangel is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of UCLA and Professor of Art History at the University of New Hampshire in Manchester. A recipient of numerous academic honors and distinguished teaching awards, he has lectured at colleges and universities, museums, and galleries in the United States and Europe. Dr. Stangel also created and directed the Art History Tours for the United States Armed Forces in Europe.

This beautifully illustrated lecture features great works of art commissioned and collected by centuries of Popes. Using art-history slides photographed at the Vatican Museum, Dr. Stangel will discuss a selection of the works of art among the museum’s collections. The Vatican Museum was founded by humanist popes during the Renaissance. In addition to its unique examples of Greek, Roman, and early Christian art, the museum’s holdings also include frescoes by Raphael and Michelangelo.

The event is free and open to the public, and will be held in the library’s lower-level meeting room. Seating is limited to the first 90 people. Light refreshments will be served.
