Come Hear ‘Banjos and Old Lace’ at the Leach Library

On Thursday, November 14 at 7:00 p.m. the Leach Library will host a musical performance by the duo, ‘Banjos and Old Lace’. These two musicians will treat listeners to an evening of traditional American music from a variety of styles.

‘Banjos and Old Lace’ is comprised of guitarist and banjo player, Robert Phillipps and vocalist/multi-instrumentalist, Sarah Jane Nelson. The duo has been featured at the First Unitarian Church in Exeter, the Parish Hall Open Stage in Peterborough and the Old Manse in Concord, Massachusetts. On his own, Robert Phillipps is a regular feature performer at coffee houses and historic homes throughout Massachusetts, and has repeatedly been a first place finalist at the Lowell Banjo and Fiddle Contest in recent years. Sarah Jane Nelson, a Londonderry resident, can be heard regularly at barn dances and folk festivals across New England. Mrs. Nelson has served as a judge at the New Boston Fiddle Contest several times, and her twin fiddling has won her ribbons at the Lowell Banjo and Fiddle Contest.

In this program, the duo will perform classic pieces for the piano and banjo, in addition to Anglo-American parlor songs and old-time Southern tunes for fiddle and guitar. During this performance, Mr. Phillipps and Mrs. Nelson will provide background on classic banjo music as well as the song selections they perform. Please join us for this night of traditional American music as played by two talented musicians.

This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Londonderry Leach Library. It is free and open to the public with seating limited to the first 90 people and will be held in the library’s lower-level meeting room. Light refreshments will be served.
