Children’s Summer Reading Program

The 2011 Children’s Summer Reading Program theme is One World, Many Stories, with the library-wide goal of reading enough books to travel around the world in twenty days: that’s 28,800 minutes, with one book equaling one minute of travel time. The program is open to all children from birth through grade 6. Participants may register in the Children’s Room beginning June 1 where they will receive a packet containing calendars noting the dates and times of all programs.

The library will be starting off this summer’s programs with a trip around the world in a series of movies. Each movie will be shown in two sessions from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. and from 2:30-4:30 p.m. The featured movies will be Everyone’s Hero on Tuesday, June 28, Anastasia on Wednesday, June 29, and Ferngully on Thursday, June 30. Registration is required and begins at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, June 27.

Weekly activities include Guess It and Trivia Contests. Regular programs include Game Day Monday, Story Time Tuesday, Craft Time Thursdays, and a Saturday Scavenger Hunt. A variety of special programs on Wednesdays include a Luau and the Blue Ocean Society’s Traveling Tide Pool. These programs require prior registration on the Monday before the event.
