Amelia Earhart Anniversary Approaching

May 20, 2007 marks the 75th anniversary of Amelia Earhart’s amazing crossing of the Atlantic Ocean. Leaving Harbor Grace, Newfoundland, Canada, at 7pm, Earhart landed near Londonderry, Northern Ireland due to mechanical problems brought on by a severe electrical storm. The 2,026 mile flight took 13 hours and 30 minutes. Earhart disappeared in 1937 on her famed attempt to fly around the globe somewhere near Howland Island in the South Pacific. To this day her disappearance remains a mystery. Anyone interested in learning more about Amelia Earhart can consult our online database, Biography Resource Center, one of the many books Leach Library has on the subject, or visit the official web site of Ms. Earhart’s estate, http:// www.ameliaearhart.com.
